Lombardi poplars grafted onto non-suckering rootstock are ideal for orchard windbreaks. As growers would appreciate, wind blemish can cause a significant negative economic impact on returns for fruit products.

Lombardi poplars are fast growing and have a tall and erect habit which makes them ideal for boundary and internal windbreak rows. Being a deciduous tree, the lombardi poplar allows for good airflow and light penetration in winter when air movement is important for frost minimisation and rind firmness. The carpet of fallen leaves provides a good layer of mulch to assist with moisture retention in the summer months. So much better and easier to manage than evergreen pine trees that cause shading and restrict air movement.
